Responsibilities:
Identifies patients at possible risk through screening procedures; establishes interdisciplinary nutrition care plan, including goals of therapy, metabolic needs, route of nutrition support, discharge plan, patient education and/or home training; designs/recommends patient specific needs formulation/prescription and quantities; adapts patient education material to level appropriate for age-specific population; evaluates patient’s or family caregiver’s response to nutrition education through question and answer interaction and other evaluation techniques; demonstrates ability to communicate recommendations verbally and in written form; evaluates current research for application in practice; assists staff in interpretation of diet orders and diet patterns; accesses hospital information system using a PC or terminal; plans, organizes and conducts in-services and educational programs for MCI staff; formulates menus for modified diets based on the needs of patients and integrates them into institutional menus; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and MCI policies including confidentiality; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via the telephone; responds to overhead pages; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with major course work in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, registry with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure with the state of Alabama as a dietitian.
